Bandai Namco Celebrates 20 Years of the Soul Calibur Series

As reported on Gematsu, Bandai Namco recently put out a video on YouTube celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the SoulCalibur series. It takes you back to the series' beginnings with Soul Edge back in December 20th of 1996 and running up to the f2p Soul Calibur Lost Swords which was released 2 years ago. Bandai Namco put out a Press Release detailing the recent Soul Calibur Pachislot machine which is being made in collaboration with YAMASA to sell to that particular market but it also announced that the Soul Calibur franchise has shipped over 14 Million copies worldwide across all the games. The description in the 20th Anniversary video details a Project Soul web page but accessing it right now leads to a test page. You can check it out here. All in all, it's not the new Soul Calibur game announcement we're all looking for but at least Bandai Namco haven't completely forgotten the series.

Gallery - SoulCalibur Concept Art by Passion Republic

Passion Republic is described as a young and unique studio from Malaysia that has contributed works to game developers with CG cinematics and next gen game characters and assets. Most notably, they have done work on several big name games such as Dark Souls 3, Batman Arkham Knight, Gears of War and more. They've recently uploaded new concept art onto their website and while they're not named, they look to be artwork for the Soul Calibur series. We don't want to lead anyone into thinking these are for a new Soul Calibur but who knows. Cool artwork regardless. You can check them out on the Passion Republic website:

Bandai Namco's Fighting Games Panel at SD-CC 2016

Once again Bandai Namco put together a Fighting Games Panel at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend to have discussions with the fans on their fighting game franchises. For the Tekken side, new Tekken related merchandise were made available to buy including a new $450 'Tekken Sukajan' jacket that has reversible sides with distinct artwork. For Soul Calibur, this was merely a discussion with the fans so I hope you didn't expect some crazy new announcements (haha.) N8nmonster and Chindogg on Twitter were there in the crowd and covered most of the things at the panel so I'll be rounding their tweets together for everyone not at SD-CC.
