Tekken stream curse confirmed. Mad glitch with spooky on deck, no game audio.
Amazing, fast tournament. Difference between Saint and rest was huge. Match between AK and JDCR look like match between newbies compared to the final match.
Regarding AK - random hopkicks, random risky attacks - it worked against newbies, but not against JDCR who just know how to wait and attack/punish opponent stupidity.
Saint was incredible.
AK is young and he does know how to space it out and play footsies. It is not like he was just about going in. It is hard for anyone to push a player like JDCR all the way. AK did it with a middle of the road (tier wise) team of Law/Paul.
Law/Paul is mostly high risk, high reward. AK also sent NOBI packing, I would not call him a newbie right? Even if you were taken by surprise, it should only work for once or twice. Not the whole set.
AK is legit, he knows to break throws and punishes pretty well which indicates a solid knowledge base. He knows how to play the in close game and the stand off game.
He just needs to get his patience level up when it is required and he will be gold. So long as he still can open big can of whoop ass when it is time to do so.
I think, and hope, what 'guest' meant is that AK simply made the matches 'look' scrubby - and he did.
I always thought at that level (helpme/nobi certainly not newbie) tactics such as AKs random risk/launcher/grab would not work.
He is clearly good at breaking throws, and getting the best out of the forgiving tag 2 system, but when you watch nobi vs jdcr and then jdcr vs AK, you'd never think AK was on their level.
Personally, I don't like the fact that that style can be so effective. It makes me feel like I shouldn't bother with advanced movement or playing 'tight' like tag 1 or DR because I now know that playing that way even works at the highest level.
I know alot of american players hate that tekken movement is so hard and that the game needs to be easier - well here you go.
well if there is a "scrubby" move that AK did not use is Law's Dragon Tail sweep. Either he had that habit "kicked" out of him or he just does not use it.
I would think he got the habit kicked out of him.
Nobi V JDCR was mainly seeing Nobi taking risk at the wrong moments too many times, I got a feeling it carried into his match against AK.
Finally, there is more than one way to play this game. It is time we get Tekken that is less about a turtle fest.
Certain moves will always seem 'random' to those who are nowhere near the same level of skill. Myself included
Saint was an absolute beast in this tournament. Fully deserving of the win - and nice to see a tournament with no Devil Jin or Kazuya in sight.
As for AK - I have to say I'm impressed. I know people are saying he was scrubby, etc... but there's a million different ways to play Tekken (that's why we love it, right?), and high risk/high reward is one of them. I think Nobi was probably taken by surprise at first at the amount of risks AK took, and consequently missed/mistimed a lot of opportunities. JDCR probably watched AK closely after being pushed to the final game in their group match and knew the way to beat him was to bait out the risky stuff and punish appropriately.
The kid will learn from this and refine his game - he'll be around for years to come at the top level.
Would be interesting to see if there were any side matches pre/post tournament... would love to see some of these players in matches we didn't get to see (Naps/Nobi, Kagemaru/AK, etc.).
I should mention, watching AK do a "I know u are going to tag crash" backdash into hopkick is satisfying!!
